I was proud to serve as the principle investigator for this grant and to lead the Talk With Me Baby research effort. I have always admired the first lady and supported her husband in his first election bid. Although we could not find any evidence to support the use of the Talk With Me Baby intervention, I was honored to be part of this partnership.
Barbara Bush was jogging in a Houston park thinking about how she could best contribute to the nation if she became first lady. As the story goes, she realized many problems such as homelessness, crime, hunger and addiction could be alleviated if more people were able to read, write and comprehend language.
